Trying to Keep the Streak Alive

First, a quick cut and paste job from yesterday . . .

Here's how things have played out so far:
The Cubs are 0-1 in playoff games in which I did not write a blog post beforehand, nor eat a jalapeno cheeseburger.
The Cubs are 3-0 in games in which I quickly typed up some drivel and also attempted to satiate my appetite with one of my favorite pleasure foods.

Never mess with a streak. (Careful, I don't know that these twenty-eight seconds are safe for work.)

So, yeah.  MLB is trying to mess with my streak.  The game starts early and it's on TBS, which means a few things:
1. I need to high tail it out of work and find a local watering hole to watch the game at, because I don't have TBS.
2. The aforementioned watering hole must have a jalapeno cheeseburger on their menu, which I probably won't have in front of me until after the game starts.
3.  I actually had to type this post yesterday because there's no way I could squeeze in a blog entry in the limited amount of time I have to find a TV.

I'm typing the post early and will eat the cheeseburger late. I hope the baseball gods who are in charge of the Streaks Department can forgive me for this one.

The last two Cubs players I picked to be player of the game have each homered in their respective games. Heck, it felt like they homered on Monday.  Let's go with with Javy Baez and his protective oven mitt for Game 4 of the NLDS as my pick to click.

Go Cubs, go!

NLDS: Doing My Part

Here's how things have played out so far:
The Cubs are 0-1 in playoff games in which I did not write a blog post beforehand, nor eat a jalapeno cheeseburger.
The Cubs are 2-0 in games in which I quickly typed up some drivel and also attempted to satiate my appetite with one of my favorite pleasure foods.

Cheeseburger today?

Check.

Cubs-centric blog post today?  I guess this one will have to do!

I did pretty well with my last player of the game prediction in Jorge Soler.  This time I'm going to go with the slumping Anthony Rizzo.   He seems to think I've made a nice choice.
If the Cubs are going to go anywhere this postseason they will need The Bear to step up his game.  Here's to hoping it starts tonight!
I'm having trouble extricating photos from the dastardly clutches of my iphone, but the picture above is one my sister (on the right) was kind enough to forward to me.  It's us holding the W flag in Busch Stadium after Saturday night's win!

There were probably a couple of dozen W flags around the stadium that night.  There will be a few hundred around Wrigley if Arrieta and the boys can get it done again tonight. Go Cubs!

Superstitious

I posted before the NL Wild Card game and the Cubs won.  I didn't make a post before Game 1 of the NLDS between Chicago and St. Louis and the Cubs lost.

Huh.  Coincidence?

So, here I am.  Typing something up quick right before I'm ready to jump into my car with three other Cubs fanatics to make the three hour trip down to Redbird Nation.

If you see four little blue dots, drowning in a sea of red, in the upper deck down the right field line, then you've spotted us!  Wish us and the Cubs luck!

My pick to click for the game:  Jorge Soler.
Jorge is the blue haired beauty in the red dress.

He hasn't had a play-off start yet, but I have a feeling he could have a critical at-bat late in the game.  So, why not?

Click to Pick: NL Wild Card Game

There's not much more than can be said about tonight's NL Wild Card game than what these fine gentlemen have thrown out there.
Some of us are nervous: Wrigley Roster Jenga.
Some of us are putting a winning streak to the test: Once a Cub.
Some of us are poking fun: Pack War.
Some of us are predicting game situations and strategy: Bob Walk the Plank.
Some of us are hoping for magic: Battlin' Bucs.

I, for one, am pretty calm and ready to for the first pitch.  It helps to know that if the Cubs don't make some noise this year, that next year is looking pretty good, too. The Cubs are about a year ahead of schedule in terms of the team's overall development and should be just entering a window of 5 to 10 years of competitive baseball.  Simply put, some of us are just happy for meaningful October baseball.

I'll be out at a friend's house watching the game, but before I go here's my pick to click:
I figure, why not?  He's been hitting the ball hard as of late and often times your post season hero is named Jim Leyritz or Aaron Boone.

Enjoy the game!

Button Relic, Baby! Buuuuuuutton Relic!

A bat knob would be cool and I've seen a few laundry tag relics I've liked, but I'm a button guy.  You know?   There are few items on my wish list which I have coveted more than the button relic.  And Gavin delivered.

I made a comment recently about a Karl Olson card Gavin (from Baseball Card Breakdown) picked up from a recent card show.  I sent Gavin a couple of things and the other day a PWE was waiting for me in my mailbox.

Here's the goods, folks:

Yep, a couple Rynos to add to the collection.  I needed both of these and now I'm 781.  Score!

A Mark Prior card numbered to 100 (on the back) and die cut of a flame throwing string bean by the name of Carl Edwards, Jr.  You have ever seen a more photo-shopped number than the '3' on Carl's rib cage?

This was formerly part of a 1999 Bowman box.  Now it's in my Kerry Wood collection!  Heck yeah!

Here's the card which started the trade.  Karl and I share the same surname.  I'm bound and determined to collect ALL of Karl's cards.  I now I have three and I think I'm missing just one more: the 1952 Topps.  For the record, I'm in no hurry to track down a '52 Topps, it's by far the least attractive and most expensive of Karl's cards.

Lastly, the authentic blog-used button relic card!   What a throw-in for a trade package!
It has a little bit of sparkle, a little bit of glow in the dark, and one very nice blog-used button.  Oh, and from personal experience, that signature POPS when the glow in the dark material has had time to charge up.  Even my wife was impressed!  Sweetness!
I got the last one and I couldn't be happier.  This one goes in THE Cubs Box.  I have multiple Cubs boxes, but this relic will get a nice top loader and then join the rest of my most prized cards.

Thank you, Gavin!  I'm so pumped to get the 7/7!
