What would you do?

Back in in January I promised myself to pick up one version of every Dan Vogelbach card released in 2017.  I made it almost five full months until I added my a Topps Inception auto to the Vogelmonster player binder.  I'm now approaching 130 different Vogelbach cards from 2017.    Wow.

Then I pulled up Ebay this evening.

Guess what dropped earlier today?

Yes, Topps Tek.  I haven't researched the 2017 version yet, but for those of you not in the know, Tek is a variation/pattern/parallel cornucopia!

Oh boy.

So, I ask my fellow player collectors and super-collectors, "What would you do?  What have you done in the past?"

Thanks for reading and your advice!

  1. For my Tino collection, I count each variation of late '90s Tek as a different one. But I don't go crazy out of my way to get them.

  2. I'd keep my eye on the lower numbered ones and let the pieces fall where they may for the rest. Most of my rainbows and such have been built across several years after they initially hit the market.

    1. Sidenote, good luck with your Vogelmonster chase regardless. Looks like you have a heck of an uphill battle.

  3. I have waited and picked up quite a few for my player and Giants collections on COMC. The shipping on eBay (which I do understand as the PO keeps raising prices) just kills me on low dollar cards. You have to go for as many of the variations as you can track down!

    1. Ahhh, COMC... I hadn't thought of going that direction to keep the shipping down. Thanks!

  4. I try to keep away from the High Tek quicksand, but that isn't saying I don't get Griffey's Rek cards. I pick up cards in my price range and ignore the rest.

  5. I love Topps Tek, but the parallels are maddening. When I do pick up cheap parallels are always check the sellers other items to possibly pick up some trade bait and combine shipping.

    1. Yes, that's a good point. I need to invest in some more trade bait.

  6. I tend to collect everything... as long as the card is affordable. But that's the thing... we all collect a little differently. And that's probably why I could never classify myself as a super-collector.

  7. I certainly can't afford to chase these, even if it were only for Altuve. I don't have super-collector blood but admire your attempts. I would definitely get the most for my shipping fees. Perhaps find a seller with more than one pattern. Good luck Tom!

  8. If it was Rodney, I chase them down. Gotta have them all and each counts as a seperate card.

I feel the same way about Tek chasing like Wild Card chasing. There's like a million lol
