A PWE from PKS

Busy-busy day for me today. The school year is done, but our baseball team is still playing. This is the first time that's happened in my professional career.

I'm off to Augustana College to coach a Super-Sectional high school baseball game. One more win and we're in the Final Four!

Lately my head has been consumed with batting orders, probably defensive substitutions and the pecking order for the bullpen.

Breaks are good. I could use a break. If even for just a second.

This quick respite is provided by Peter, of Baseball Every Night fame.
I didn't remember it was Almora who scored the go ahead run in the 10th inning.
I recall Schwarber got the hit and I vividly remember Zobrist's double down the left field line that knocked in the go-ahead run, but the Almora substitution had faded a bit.

And wait!  What's this? It's card #661, which is the last card I needed for my Cubs FrankenSet build!  Awesome!

Thanks to Peter for refreshing one of my fondest memories and for finishing my FrankenSet!  I'm hoping we can make some more this evening!

  1. Can't think of a better card than a World Series card to finish up a Cubs frankenset. Especially one of the player who "wrapped" it up with the go ahead run!

  2. Congratulations on completing your Cubs Frankenset! Is it one of those things where all cards are final... or do you swap cards out when something else comes along?

    1. Oh, it's a living set! I swap out cards when something better comes along, whether it be a card from a new set, a cool insert from the 90's or a loved piece of vintage. :)

  3. Weird to see a game with a November date but it was worth waiting for.

  4. You know, I looked up "Cubs 661" on COMC one day because I was curious about your frankenset, and this was the only card that came up. Glad you've got a copy -- it might well be the lone Cub #661 in existence!

    1. I asked Wrigley Wax if he a #661 in his database and he said to his knowledge one hadn't been produced yet! I never thought about Topps NOW. Crazy!

  5. I'm glad you got it and that the set is in some ways complete! Wahoo! I searched so many places for that card and like others found this was the only one (for now). Let us know how the game turned out.
