Bobblehead #29
Name: Chris Sabo
Position: Third base
Team: Cincinnati Reds
Description: 6.25 inches tall; fielding stance; classic Sabo goggles
Relevance: Visited Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati during July of
2010 and saw three games versus the Nationals. Stephen Strasburg pitched the game and earned his final win of 2010 before being
shelved with a season ending elbow injury.
How Acquired: Bought at a baseball card shop in Florence, Kentucky, three
days after he was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame. The bobblehead was given out on the same day he was inducted. (My arrival in Cincinnati was just a few days
late!)
Other Notes: Sabo was always a pretty good guy, but I was NOT a fan of
his during the late 80’s and early 90’s, because he beat out Mark Grace for the
1988 NL Rookie of the Year Award by eighteen points. Overall, he was a three time All-Star and won
a World Series with the Reds in 1990.
Fun Fact: I wore "rec specs" just like Sabo while playing sports back in the day.
That's a sweet bobblehead of Spuds. Hopefully I'll have one in my collection someday.
