There's a contest going on over at Sport Card Collectors titled SPORTS CHALLENGE CONTEST! For those you, like myself, who are organizational nerds, then first prize is right up your alley. Check this out:
Wow, a shoe house! All you have to do is pick the winners of a few games and you might win.  Good luck!

I also wanted to remind everyone of my contest that could possibly net you a blaster of cards. Visit this post and log your guesses in the comment section before 11:59p.m., central time, tomorrow (6/15).
Let's catch some chipmunks!

Complete Sets from the Estate Sale

A little over two months ago I attended an estate sale in P-town that just had an astronomical amount of cards being sold.
roughly 20% of the inventory at the estate sale

I made out with a nice haul which contained a few shoe boxes crammed with top loaders and a couple of overstuffed binders. It has taken me the last nine weeks to get everything sorted to my level of meticulousness, but I finally have a grasp on what I now own.

Today we're going to take a look at the complete sets I added to my collection.  In an upcoming post I'm going to throw out a few want lists for sets that are darn close to being complete.

1985 7-11 Slurpee Coins, Great Lakes Region
There are sixteen coins in this set and cover players from the Tigers, Brewers, Reds, White Sox, Orioles, Royals, Yankees, Cardinals and Cubs, including Sutcliffe and Sandberg. I'm not sure how the Yankees and Orioles are part of the Great Lakes Region, because they seem more like the Atlantic Coast region to me.

1986 7-11 Slurpee Coins, Mideastern Region
Another sixteen coins in this grouping. This time each coin is shared by three players, which I like immensely. The one in the far left column, third row down, is titled "MVPs" on the back and has Robin Yount, Willie Hernandez and Ryne Sandberg. The coin underneath that one is titled "Rookies" and pictures Ernest Riles, Ozzie Guillen, and Shawon Dunston.

1984 & 1985 Topps Rub Downs

Many of you have seen these before. I've taken pictures of only the first pages, but there are thirty-two "cards" in each set.

1986 Topps Tattoos
There twenty-four rub down sheets, but I had only seem them ripped apart until now.
Subtract the snow cone from this picture and that was the look on my face when I unfolded one of these rub down sheets.
Me enjoying the P-town Chiefs game the other night.
 Check this out!
Wow! Twenty-four sheets times eight equals 192 players in the set. Stellar!

2001 Upper Deck Hall of Famers
I've been receiving the Cubs from this set in trade packages for years. The base cards (1-90) are nice, and come in three different designs, but the inserts are where it's at. Unfortunately the insert sets weren't heavily represented in the estate sale lots I purchased. C'est la vie. Regardless, I'll never pass on a set of Hall of Famers.

In total, I picked up these five odd-ball complete sets and the one UD set for about twenty bucks. They don't sell for much on Ebay and could probably be had for about that amount in total, but I'm pretty happy to add all of them to my collection. Also, it's great that they came in a binder with pages so I can flip through during commercials breaks of a Cubs telecast and enjoy!

Stay tuned for the next post as it will contain three sets that I need some help trying to finish. Until that time, thanks for stopping by and reading!

Retail Purchase: 2016 Topps National League Standouts

I was in Kankakee, Illinois, early this week visiting family and I had a moment so I stopped in a big box store and almost walked out with a blaster of Archives. I put it back, because really all I want is a Crash Davis card (sans auto) and I would have felt some serious buyer's remorse afterwards. How could Topps not put non-auto cards Kevin Costner or Susan Sarandon in this insert set?  So frustrating.

Instead I grabbed the above number for a five-spot and happily strolled out to the parking lot.

You may be thinking it was a silly purchase, but remember I'm a Cubs fan AND Kris Bryant is in this set. His card alone could have possibly set me back the five bucks. And hey, my blogging friends aren't going to complain when they find these in their mailboxes down the road. Right?
For the record, there is an AL Standouts set available, too . . . but yeah, there aren't any Cubs in that one so it's resting on the shelf at the store.

If you see something you need to add to your collection just drop me a comment.

This just in: The Mets pitching staff is good.
For the record, if you want the Giancarlo card, then I'm sending you Dee Gordon as a "bonus". I have enough Marlins and no takers!

I've been too lazy to check and see if Topps was lazy in the creation of these cards. Are all the pictures the same from the flagship product? Kris Bryant's is about the same. Although, the "Future Stars" label is missing, an NL stamp is now present, and the photo has been zoomed in a click or two.
The backs seem to be pretty much the same, but the numbers all start with NL.
Here's the fronts of the last two Cubs in the set.

Three Cubs, some trade bait, and no buyer's remorse for me.

Thanks for stopping by and try to stay cool today!

Baseball (Cards) Every Night

Peter is a relatively new blogger who joined our little community back in April with his blog, Baseball Every Night. Peter recently found his childhood collection and has been cataloging the cards through his blog.  I jumped on a couple of Ryne Sandberg Panini stickers he posted, which I needed for my player collection that now stands at 797.

I sent Peter a Darryl Strawberry cards in the swap and I'll keep my eyes out for cards of Straw when I go to a card show.

After all, Peter sent along a few extras from this year's Topps flagship set that I needed, including Kris Bryant and a card for my Wrigley set build.
Here's a couple of League Leaders cards as well:
Again, I'm proud to report I have accumulated a Topps Series 1 Cubs team set only through trade. Thank you, bloggers!

Thank you, Peter, for helping me out on two fronts.  It is much appreciated.

If you haven't checked out his blog yet, I would suggest giving it a look. One of Peter's recent posts posed a question about having pitchers participate in their own home run derby during the All-Star festivities. Could you imagine a championship round pitting MadBum versus Bartolo? I think that would break the internet!

Contest Reminder!

Remember to sign up for my Chipmunk Relocation Program contest to win a blaster of cards. I started relocating this morning and all is going well . . . so far.

Upon my return home I found that my new cat trap is working well, too!

The cats love when we get packages from Amazon and the like, because we always leave the boxes out for them to play and sleep in.
The chipmunk trap is designed for weasels, squirrels, cats and skunks. I can say with confidence that the trap works great on chipmunks and the box works great on our cats! A weasel would be interesting and I'm hoping the skunks stay away.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your day!
