Folder of Fun: Page 8

The Folder of Fun, as I like to call it, has been in the works for about three years. That's about the time I stopped buying retail and hobby packs and began tracking down cards which fit a certain general description: FUN.  Here's a link to the first post in this series if you'd like to go back and catch up.

Page 8 has one of the more well known minor league cards ever.

1992 Donruss Triple Play, #135 - Kent Hrbek
The first incarnation of Triple Play (1992) was so much better than what we received from Panini in 2012 and 2013. Maybe Kent Hrbek isn't a fan of cameras?

1991 Topps, #530 - Roger Clemens
Here's another beauty from 1991 Topps. Just soak this one in.

1990 Upper Deck, #684 - Jack Armstrong
Spring training jumping jacks for Jack Armstrong.

1984 Fleer, #495 - Jay Johnstone
I want to say this this is the first card I had in my collection which would qualify for the Folder of Fun.

1991 Studio, #216 - Steve Lake
Hobby and Interests from the back of Steve Lake's card: "Raising birds including Ruffles, pictured on the front of this card..."

1990 Pro Cards, #14 - Keith Comstock
If you haven't read about how this card came to be, then you need to click here. It's worth the few minutes to read. I guarantee it!

2010 Topps, #1 - Prince Fielder
What a great card! Here's the video which led to this photograph:

1988 Fleer, #582 - Tim Flannery
I checked the back of the card to see where Flannery was born: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Well, that doesn't explain the surfboard, but Del Mar, California, is listed as his residence. That's more like it.

1995 Topps Stadium Club, #51 - Rex Hudler
This is kind of how I feel about my Folder of Fun sometimes. I don't want to let it go.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at Page 8. On Friday we'll have Page 9!

  1. Some classics here for sure. The jumping Jack Armstrong was a new one for me.

  2. Flan told me once that the surfboard had no names on it and the photographer added some relatives names to it. Tim has been a long time surfer and still surfs these days.

  3. That Comstock is awesome! I'd love to own a copy... but eBay guys have it listed at outrageous prices.

  4. There was a lot of fun images on this page. A card like the Johnstone card would probably never be produced in today's politically correct world.

  5. All fantastic selections! My dad got me a copy of that Comstock for Christmas last year, and he timed it perfectly -- its popularity (and price) have skyrocketed recently.
